Following your dermaplaning procedure, you skin will feel very clean. Those with sensitive skins might be a little pink, but this flush of colour will diminish very quickly.
Makeup can be wear straight after your dermaplane facial, but most like the feel of their skin feeling so clean that they generally don’t wear makeup until the following day.
For the next couple of days you need to look after your skin. An essential part of the aftercare is to wear SPF (sun protection). With the removal of dead skin, the skin underneath has not been exposed to the sun, so it needs protection. Please, please wear SPF every day. Wear SPF in addition to what is in your makeup. Your skin will be super sensitive to the sun, so please protect it.
As your skin will be sensitive you also need to avoid for the next 3 days, saunas, sunbeds and self-tanning. If you go to the gym, please wash your face after, as the sweat can irritate.
Try not to spray perfume on your face or neck. The alcohol contained in perfume will make your skin sting. If you forget then just wash the area with water. Another good reason to wear SPF is that the sun burns off alcohol in perfumes and can result in hyperpigmentation on the neck. Using SPF will limit this hyperpigmentation forming.
Be careful of your mobile phone. We all neglect to clean our phones and they are covered in bacteria. If you place your mobile against your freshly exfoliated face you might develop a rash or breakout in spots. Clean your phone with Optical Lens wipes, the ones used for cleaning spectacles, readily available from Boots.
As dermaplaning is such a gentle, but effective, facial that gives instant results, you can prolong those results by following a good home-care skincare routine. Your product absorption will increase, so you won’t need to apply so much. So all those expensive face creams you’ve bought will work better and probably do what they promised!!
Dermaplaning will remove peach fuzz hair temporarily as it will grow back exactly as it was before, no thicker, no darker. It is physiologically impossible for the hair to grow back thicker and darker as only the top of the hair follicle is treated.
You can have another dermaplaning treatment no sooner than 3 weeks.
If you are following a good skincare programme, then regular monthly treatments would be great for your skin.
To plan your dermaplaning treatments, always have a treatment after your holiday, rather than before, as this will remove the dry dead skin, more evident, following time in the sun. If you’re getting your skin ready for a special event it’s best to have a Dermaplane a week beforehand, preferably, with a LED light treatment to ensure that any breakouts, especially if you’re prone to them, are stopped or limited.
Dermaplaning and Microneedling (to a depth of 0.2-0.4mm) Combined
The aftercare for this facial is slightly different.
When you leave the treatment room SPF will only be applied if there is no direct sunlight. usually after 5pm. I generally prefer not to apply SPF for this treatment, as microneedled skin needs a little bit of time to recover and it can do this better without SPF.
If no SPF has been applied, please do not expose your skin to strong sunshine following your treatment. This is very important, as your skin will be sensitive and direct sunlight on dermaplaned skin will cause pigmentation. After 24 hours you can continue your usual skincare regime. This might be the time to start using SPF in addition to what’s in your makeup. I recommend that clients cleanse, moisturize and apply SPF before applying their makeup. This is an excellent habit to get into and your skin will thank you for it, especially as you get older.
Please refrain from taking anti-histamine or pain killers, if you can, as they will interrupt the body’s natural healing process. Your skin has undergone a managed mini trauma. Your skin will be pink when you leave the treatment room. This will subside within the first 24-48 hours.
Use the mask given to you within a couple of hours of your treatment. This mask is saturated with hyaluronic acid serum and your skin will just drink this up and will help calm the skin down further as well as hydrate it.
