Microneedling & Mesotherapy

FAQs – Microneedling & Mesotherapy2019-05-14T18:08:17+01:00

Ameson is Juliette Armand’s wonderful hi-tech medical grade mesotherapy products offering a wide range of professional solutions for targeted and personalised skin care. Hyaluronic acid is the starting point and foundation stone of the entire Ameson range. There are serums to treat both the face and body.

Mesotherapy is a non-surgical cosmetic treatment that can be carried out on any part of the face and body. The serum, or cocktail of serums, is worked into the skin where it seeps into the skin through the small vertical channels created by Dermapen’s 12 titanium needles. The channels are only open for about 10 minutes. The body starts the process of healing immediately and closes the channels. The serum gets to work and by day 20 you should start to see results.

What is Microneedling?2018-09-27T17:56:46+01:00

Microneedling is a non-surgical anti-ageing cosmetic treatment which rejuvenates, tightens and lifts the skin, resulting in a refreshed and more youthful looking complexion.  It is a quick and highly effective treatment.

What is Mesotherapy?2018-09-27T18:04:00+01:00

Mesotherapy is microneedling, but with serums.  The active ingredients in these formulated serums specifically improve the appearance of acne-scarring, stretch marks, deep wrinkles (smokers lips, crows feet wrinkles, etc), hyperpigmentation, age-spots, large pores, dull complexions, dehydrated sun-damaged skins, etc.

How does Microneedling work?2018-09-27T18:04:24+01:00

The Dermapen device holds a needle cartridge containing 12 ultra-fine sterile titanium needles.  The Dermapen glides over the skin, puncturing the skin 1,296 times per second.  This controlled injury starts the healing process and triggers the production of collagen and elastin.

The needle cartridge is small and can get into smaller areas, around the nose, lips and eyes and works at different depths, depending on the thickness of the skin being treated.

Which treatment is right for me?2018-09-27T18:04:43+01:00

Microneedling is generally carried out for anti-ageing rejuvenating purposes and Mesotherapy is the preferred treatment for problem skin.

What is Dermapen Microneedling/Mesotherapy useful for?2018-09-27T18:05:14+01:00

As we age the production of collagen slows down and what collagen is produced is of a lower grade.  Wrinkles appear and the texture and appearance of our skin changes.  Microneedling kick-starts the production of top grade collagen, elastin and connective fibroblasts which regenerate cells and strengthen the skin structure.  Ideal for improving:

  • face, neck and décolletage fine lines and wrinkles
  • enlarged pores
  • lack of skin firmness and elasticity
  • acne and chicken pox scars
  • scarring
  • stretch Marks
  • hyperpigmentation – good for pigmentation on the neck and age spots.
Can I have Microneedling/Mesotherapy?2018-09-27T18:05:37+01:00

These procedures can be safely performed on all skin types and colours due to the fact that the Dermapen only punctures the skin, leaving the surface of the skin intact.  These procedures can be performed on any part of the face and body, treat sensitive and fragile areas that are difficult to treat with other procedures.

However, these treatments are not suitable for clients who:

  • use Accutane (isotretinoin) within the last three months;
  • have open wounds, cuts or abrasions on the skin;
  • have had radiation treatment to the skin within the last year;
  • have any kind of current skin infection, condition, herpes simplex in the area desired to be treated;
  • are pregnant or breast feeding;
  • have any history of keloid or hypertrophic scars or poor wound healing.
Will it hurt?2018-09-27T18:05:55+01:00

It can be uncomfortable, but numbing cream is used to help make this treatment a more comfortable procedure.

How long will the treatment take and what does the treatment involve?2018-09-27T18:06:21+01:00

It takes around an hour and half.  There is paperwork to complete, time set aside for numbing and then the treatment time.

The treatment area is cleansed, numbed and the skin is prepared by applying a glide serum or a mesotherapy serum to help the Dermapen glide over the treatment area.  The pen moves over the area four times, in different directions, and different depths, quite quickly.

The treated area is then cleansed with water and a calming balm is applied.

How many treatments will I need and when will I see results?2018-09-27T18:06:46+01:00

You will need 3-6 treatments.

Each person’s skins’ response is unique, so results are individual.  If you eat healthily, exercise regularly and don’t smoke, your results will be better.  If you don’t lead such a healthy lifestyle and smokes it just takes a little longer!

Remember wrinkles, acne scarring, stretch marks, etc, develop over a long period of time, so improving damaged skin also takes time to repair.  You need to be patient with this treatment as the results will come, especially at the 3 month stage when the effect of the new collagen starts to show .

What is the cost?2018-09-27T18:07:02+01:00

If this is your first microneedling/ mesotherapy treatment you should know that one treatment will not be enough.  One treatment is not going to give you the results you’re looking for.  You need to understand that its beneficial to have at least three treatments in order to see results.

Each individual session costs £135.  You can reduce this cost by purchasing 3 or 6 treatments. 3 sessions £344 (15% discount)/ 6 sessions £648 (20% discount).

How often can I have these treatments?2018-09-27T18:07:20+01:00

You can have microneedling every 4-6 weeks.  If you are diabetic, and/or a smoker, for instance, you will need to wait 6 weeks between treatments, as healing takes a little longer.  Otherwise every 4 weeks.

What are the lasting effects?2018-09-27T18:07:35+01:00

The collagen and elastin production continue to strengthen the structure of your skin for up to 2 years.  The collagen that’s produced is of a higher grade, therefore the texture of your skin is improved.

Future maintenance?2018-09-27T18:07:52+01:00

Once you’re happy with the results of your treatment, it’s a good idea to have a microneedling/ mesotherapy treatment twice a year to keep your collagen strong and the texture of your skin smooth.

A week before treatment refrain from tanning, stop using retinol A facial creams.  If you’re on any acne reducing medication stop this, but please check with your doctor first.

A month before treatment ensure any laser treatments are finished, any cosmetic tattooing is healed, and no chemical peels for a month.

Immediately following treatment your skin will be red, swollen and tight.   So don’t plan to party that night!

Careful attention is now required to ensure the best possible results after your procedure.

You might find if you take an anti-inflammatory and/or a pain killer this will help, though it’s not necessary.  It just depends on each person and how they deal with the swelling, heat and tightness following the treatment.

Be gentle with your face.  Apply moisturiser to protect and nourish the skin.  ALWAYS wear SPF (Sun Protection).

Avoid shower gels and soaps to the treated area for the first three days.  Do not touch the treated area for up to 3 days this may cause infection if hands are not clean.

Make sure any moisturising products are mild and soap-free. Use PH balanced cleansers that will not strip, irritate or leave a heavy residue on the skin.  Please do not use cleanser wipes as they strip the face of natural oils!

Preferably wash area treated with warm/tepid water only.  Pat dry.

Post Treatment avoid these for the first two days:

  • Direct sun exposure
  • Intensive cardio, exercise or gym workouts
  • Excessively hot showers, baths, spas or saunas
  • Microdermabrasion, laser, intense pulsed light (IPL), chemical peels, botox and fillers
  • Spray tans or self-tanning
  • Swimming in chlorinated pools or the sea
  • Tattooing.

Post Treatment avoid these skin care products for the first week:

  • Chemical Peels – including glycolic, lactic, mandelic and salicylic
  • Benzoyl peroxide (can be found in acne creams)
  • Retinoids including tretinoin, retinol and retinaldehyde – Retinol A (found in face creams)
  • Hydroquinone (creams that lighten the skin)
  • High levels of Kojic or azelaic acid
  • Alcohol (found in products, not the drinking sort!)

The Healing Process – The Week Ahead

  • 24 Hours – Redness and swelling.
  • 1-2 days – Mild redness, reduced swelling, minor itching, tight sensation.
  • 2-3 days – Reduced redness, swelling near gone, reduced itching, minor flaking.
  • 3-4 days – Slight dryness.
  • 4-5 days – Full recovery with normalised function.

The Healing Process – Overall

The healing process will be different for each person, as it depends on age, lifestyle and the particular issue being treated.  The healing process will be as follows:

  • 1-14 days – INFLAMMATION – Nutrient rich blood surges to the treatment site.  Inflammatory factors are released.  Growth factors are released in the epidermis (top layer of the skin) and the dermis (the layer of skin below the epidermis.
  • 2-21 days – REPAIR – Growth factors continue to be released and connective tissue regeneration (strengthening the skin structure).  Removal of cells (old and broken cells) no longer required.
  • 20 days – 24 months MATURATION – Production of collagen starts its transition from type III to type I.  The skin strengthens with rich collagen and elastin fibre network, softening lines, scars and pores.

Plan in advance your treatment.  This should be carried out after a special occasion not immediately before.  Definitely better after a holiday in the sun.

Other Add-On Treatments to Enhance

Microneedling/ Mesotherapy works from the inside out, adding a chemical peel will work from the outside in. (£60)

Red LED light therapy is a great add-on as it also stimulates collagen, has healing benefits and calms the skin. (£35)

Cooling face masks can be purchased and use at home to help cool, calm and hydrate the face. (£16)
