Avoid laser treatments 4 weeks before treatment.
If you are having any sort of chemical peel close to your dermaplaning, can you please advise me of this. There are so many different brands of peels and strengths on the market, I can give you a specific time scale to wait before or after your dermaplaning.
No waxing for 7 days prior.
Please inform me if you are pregnant or nursing.
You can wear makeup immediately afterwards, but I advise to wait until the next day before applying makeup…..as I recommend with all my facials.
Please wear SPF. A treatment that removes the top layer of dead skin will make your skin more sun sensitive. Wearing SPF every day is the best aftercare and skincare advice I can give anyone…..whether you have just had dermaplaning or not!
Avoid heat treatments (sauna, steam room etc) for the next 24 hours… Your skin may be more prone to irritation directly after dermaplaning than it normally would, so sweating can further increase the irritation. Also avoid self-tanning or sunbeds for at least 3 days.
Do not spray perfume on your face or neck for the first couple of days as it will sting, because of the alcohol contained in perfume. If you do spray some on your face by accident, it will sting, but just wash it off with water. Spray perfume on your clothes. There is alcohol in perfume and if the sun is allowed to burn off that alcohol, whether you’ve had a dermaplaning treatment or not, it can leave hyperpigmentation. Always good to protect the skin initially with SPF. It is vital that you wear a separate SPF to what’s in your make-up. This is very important as your new skin has not been exposed to sunlight before and it needs protecting otherwise you will develop hyperpigmentation.
Be careful of your mobile phone. We all neglect to clean our phones and they are covered in bacteria. If you place your mobile against your freshly exfoliated face you might develop a rash or breakout in spots. Clean your phone with Optical Lens wipes, the ones used for cleaning spectacles, readily available from Boots.
Whilst you will have instant results after your treatment, following a good skincare routine is a must to prolong the results. The removal of dead skin and facial hair increases product absorption from 20% to 60%. So all those expensive face creams you’ve bought will work better and probably do what they promised!!
Dermaplaning will remove peach fuzz hair temporarily as it will grow back exactly as it was before, no thicker, no darker. It is physiologically impossible for the hair to grow back thicker and darker as only the top of the hair follicle is treated.
You can have another dermaplaning treatment no sooner than 3 weeks.
If you are following a good skincare programme, then regular monthly treatments would be great for your skin.
To plan your dermaplaning treatments, always have a treatment after your holiday, rather than before, as this will remove the dry dead skin, more evident, following time in the sun. If you’re getting your skin ready for a special event it’s best to have a Dermaplane a week beforehand, preferably, with a LED light treatment to ensure that any breakouts, especially if you’re prone to them, are stopped or limited.
Dermaplaning and Microneedling (to a depth of 0.2-0.4mm) Combined
The aftercare for this facial is slightly different.
When you leave the treatment room SPF will only be applied if there is no direct sunlight. usually after 5pm. I generally prefer not to apply SPF for this treatment, as microneedled skin needs a little bit of time to recover and it can do this better without SPF.
If no SPF has been applied, please do not expose your skin to strong sunshine following your treatment. This is very important, as your skin will be sensitive and direct sunlight on dermaplaned skin will cause pigmentation. After 24 hours you can continue your usual skincare regime. This might be the time to start using SPF in addition to what’s in your makeup. I recommend that clients cleanse, moisturize and apply SPF before applying their makeup. This is an excellent habit to get into and your skin will thank you for it, especially as you get older.
Please refrain from taking anti-histamine or pain killers, if you can, as they will interrupt the body’s natural healing process. Your skin has undergone a managed mini trauma. Your skin will be pink when you leave the treatment room. This will subside within the first 24-48 hours.
Use the mask given to you within a couple of hours of your treatment. This mask is saturated with hyaluronic acid serum and your skin will just drink this up and will help calm the skin down further as well as hydrate it.
